This is a question we’ve discussed a lot during the last few months. With 15 miles of the first four routes already identified, defining and developing the remaining 85 miles plus of the network will be a key focus over the next ten years.
Central to this is the CyanLines co-design programme and so we jumped at the chance to host a ‘walkshop’ during Greater Manchester’s Green Summit conference on 3rd March. Hosted by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham and housed in its new home, the fantastic Co-op Live, the conference provided an opportune moment to invite people to explore a new CyanLine with us, CL5.
Led by GM Ringway creator, Andrew Read and joined by broadcaster and placemaker Kunle Barker, the walk started at the crossroads of Co-op Live and Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City Football Club. We gave each of our walkers a card and asked them to consider nine questions and take photos on their journey.

Our group of 80 enthusiastic walkers meandered their way in the spring sunshine down the River Medlock to New Islington, soaking up industrial heritage blended with newly regenerated buildings. Ashton canal, and its flora and fauna, looped us back north to the start. Thanks to everyone who emailed in their photo responses! We loved hearing about the many community projects which are already utilising Manchester’s green and blue spaces and look forward to connecting them to the CyanLines network.
