Our first CyanLines Sunday

Interim CyanLines project director Steve Connor, shares what happened yesterday on our first CyanLines Sunday walk

“What to say? On Sunday we went for a walk. It was led jointly by Tom Bloxham and Jonathan Schofield who were both brilliant and spurred on by CyanLines co-founder Pete Swift and my CyanLines colleagues Lisa Ashurst and Clare Dentith DipM.

A huge number of people, over 120 of them, explored the green and blue spaces of the original modern city. Some spaces were new. Some very old. All were fascinating. Jonathan layered it all up with our incredible heritage and how Manchester shaped the modern world.

We talked about everything from accessibility for all, jogging routes, and volunteering, through to playful spaces for children and how to create a ‘sponge city’ that manages rainfall and flood risk, all while doing something that actually makes a difference in the face of climate and biodiversity crises.

It was a linear workshop of people sharing ideas, and all of it leading to real action, all while also trying not to fall into a river or canal. Amazing.
